IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor The IntelliCarb™ Compensating Carburetor is designed to automatically adjust the air/fuel ratio when the air filter becomes restricted or partially clogged and maintains the engine’s correct RPM. IntelliCarb™ uses air from the clean side of the air filter to control the diaphragm and flow of fuel. As the air filter becomes dirty and less air is available for the carburetor, the IntelliCarb™ system adjusts the fuel flow to compensate for the decrease in air flow. This is in contrast to typical carburetors that utilize this air from the “dirty” side of the air box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by taylor11 from Great First Saw This was my first chainsaw, now I have three because my experience with this saw infected me with chainsaw fever but left me wanting more power. It is simple, lightweight, and smooth to operate and I am glad this is what I learned on since it is small enough to make mistakes and recover before suffering an injury while bigger saws are not as forgiving. I would prefer an adjustable carb. I would suggest downsizing bars I am using a 12' Stihl bar and chain and it is a much better cutting experience. I think dollar for dollar it is as good as a saw gets. Rated 5 out of 5 by declinetodoso from Glad I bought it Bought the MS170 after I got truly sick of trying to start my 30-year-old Brand X. Notwithstanding complaints I've read, the MS170 is easy to start and goes on the third or fourth pull if you follow the owner's manual directions.

So far I've run about three tanks of gas through it, cutting pine slash from the local mountains and oak deadfalls at the ranch for firewood. Needless to say, goes through pine like hot butter, but it does very well on 6-8' seasoned oak logs too.

Well balanced, plenty of power (although not fully broken in yet), light, good homeowner saw. I typically use it about once every other month. Rated 5 out of 5 by BraamRSA from Stihl vs African Bush I tend to overthink most things combined with a tendency for passion bordering on obsession for things I find interesting. Recently married & borrowed my father in law's MS 382 to cut down fallen trees blocking dirt roads on our private game farm outside the city (which we visit on weekends).

Whilst this saw made short work of anything in its path, it was heavy & very few of the trees exceeded 15 inch diameter. I also hate having to borrow things for many reasons so I decided to buy my own Stihl. Went for the 170 as it is light weight & 90% of my work on the farm is small to medium trees. If you have any chainsaw experience you'll know that the weight of a saw really does matter. I can go all morning cutting with this saw before I start to tire. Just love this saw.I meticulously clean it after every use & make sure that no fuel is left in the tank / carburettor after each use. The saw pays me back for my efforts in reliability. Leaving no fuel in any two stroke machine after you use it is the best chance you'll have of never having reliability issues.
