I was at a gun shop today and was looking at a Luger for sale, it has numbers on the Slide the barrel the take down lever, safety that all match, the toggle doesn't. It has the sunburst in front of the serial number on the slide, saying E.German Police rework. I didn't notice until later that there was no serial number on the front of the frame. The front of the frame has the same blueing as the rest of the frame with about the same amount of where and age. Has anyone ever seen a Luger, especially and E.German rework, that doesn't have a serial number on the frame. What ramifications could it have and would it be legal to register? I took it apart to check for numbers and now the slide won't lock back. I took it apart a second time didn't make a difference, the take down lever is tight, the toggle has good tension to it and it racks ok, but won't stay back, it did before I field stripped it. I thought that the Serial numbers always had to be on the frame? You're overthinking everything. The frame isn't necessarily the part that needs to be serialized (in Europe, it's usually the barrel). QUOTE] The full serial number (i.e.
1234 or 1234x) on a Luger is always stamped onto the underside of the barrel and the front of the frame. In case it's missing in one of these locations this means that either the barrel has been changed or the serial has been ground off the frame.
VOPO Lugers are usually force matched; exchange parts are stamped with the serial of the gun (or last 2 digits thereof on small parts). I don't mind. $749, if the hold open lever had been there then it would have been better, I am sure I overpaid for it from the dealer, but hopefully didn't overpay by too much. I got a repro lever for $30 on-line It is hard to tell from the pictures, but what are guns of this type going for?
